The Profile of Tourism in Yogyakarta

At the present time, Yogyakarta has developed and become one of the Indonesia’s main tourist destination areas. The friendliness of the people can be found on the arrival of visitors. The hospitality can be found during their stay until they leave Yogyakarta, bringing good memories to their own countries.

Besides Yogyakarta is known as the main tourist destination area in Indonesia, it is also as a heroic city, center of culture and education. Nowdays it is developing to be a center of Industry and Trade supported with the regional potential in historical sites, science panorama, unique tradition, friendliness of the people. All are equipped with infrastructure and facilities which make Yogyakarta a Main Tourist Destination Area for both domestic and international visitors. The tourist attractions worth seeing, such as:

a.       Natural Attraction:

1.      Peak of Mt. Merapi

The peak of Mount Merapi can be reached from two alternative routes. The first route can be taken through Kinah Rejo village, located about two kilometers east of Kaliurang recreation city. It is about 9 kilometers from the village of the peak of Mountain Merapi. The route of this mount climbing is very challenging, so it is an ideal place to young travellers for an adventurous trip.

The other route can be taken through Selo region, the regency of Boyolali, Central Java Province. To get to Selo, you can take a bus from Yogyakarta to Kartosuro, then take another bus to Boyolali. Take a minibus from Boyolali station to Selo. A tour guide is recommended when you take this mount climbing. Mt. Merapi is only volcano in Yogyakarta Special Region.

The beauty is on the peak of the mount which is in form of unsmooth sand sea with the craters. Some of them are still smoking. This signifies Mt. Merapi is an active volcano. A very thick dark grey cloud which looks like a sheep can be found in a distance when Mt. Merapi is smooking.

Besides the unique atmosphere of the peak, the scenery on the mount is fascinatng with fresh and clear air. A lot of  youth are interested in climbing the mount.
