Beach Resort
Parangtritis
area, better known as a recreation beach resort, constitues a place which has
many historical attractions especially the one which has relation with the
legend of Ratu Kidul, the Queen of the South Sea (Indian Ocean). It is 27 km
from Yogyakarta and offers some attractions, such as:
Ø Parang Wedang
It is a mineral
hot spring which flows the whole your round. It is a good place for visitors to
have skin treatment.
Ø Parang Kusuma
According to Javanese
belief, Parang Kusuma is considered a sacred place in the area Parangtritis
beach. This site is believed to the meeting place between the kings who ruled
Yogyakarta and Ratu Kidul, Queen of the South Sea. The meeting volcanic
eruption is called Watu Gilang located on the sand of the beach. This sacred
complex is frequently visited by domestic tourists, and it is equipped with
accomodations, mosque, restaurants, and so on.
Ø Gambirawati Highlands
To reach the
Gambirawati Highlands, one can take the route from Parangtritis to Panggang and
Langse cave. This area is good palce to
see a panoramatic view and its surroundings.
Ø Langse Cave
Langse was used
to be an asceticism cave in the form of corridor under the big rock of which of
the mouth overlooks the sea. The cave can be reached by climbing down a steep
rock and a rope or a bamboo ladder. To go into and out of the cave, one can do
it when the tide ebbs, on account of the cave mouth is covered with sea water
when the tide comes in.
Ø Tomb of Syeh Bela-Belu
This tomb is
located on the hill of Pemancingan, and is often visited by pilgrims on
Tuesdays and Jum’at Kliwon (certain Fridays of Javanese calender).
