7. Gembira Loka Zoo




Gembira Loka is a zoo and botanical garden, located at the outskirts of Yogyakarta city. It can be reached by any public transportation including becak (pedicab), andong (horse cart), and city bus.
The zoo exhbits kinds of domestic and foreign animals, and facilities include water recreation at the artifical lake, fishing pool, amusement attraction, musical shows, festivals and so on. They are all offered to the visitors of Gembira Loka Zoo and botanical garden.



6. Education Forest Wanagama I


Wanagama I is a man-made forest specifically designed for education purposes. Besides, it also functions as a sample to develop a multipurpose forest, particularly to overcome critical forest and to do the reforestration. This forest occupies an area of 80 hectares and is managed by Forest Faculty of Gajah Mada University. To reach Wanagama I, you take public transport from the Yogyakarta bus terminal for Wonosari and get dropped at Gading village. It is onlo 3 km from the village and visitor is supposed to take a walk from here as there is no transportation yet.


5. The Beaches of Trisik, Glagah and Congat in Kulon Progo

  •       Trisik Beach
This pretty beach is very well known among fising lovers. To have a good catch, they go fishing at the Gunsairo river. Its is approximately 37 km from Yogyakarta to the beach. The suggested route is from Yogyakarta through Palbapang, then turn left at the crossroad to Srandakan leading to Brosot. You can take a trip from Yogyakarta to Brosot by public bus, but stopover at Srandakan, from here you change a Micro bus to the beach. Traditional transportation such as dokar or andong (horse carts) are available from Brosot to the beach.




  •       Glagah and Congat Beaches
Glagah beach is located in Kulon Progo Regency, about 40 km from Yogyakarta city, visitor can take a Yogyakarta-Purworejo bus or Micro bus, then stop at the crossroad leading to Glagah. Ojek or motorcycle ride is available at the crossroad or just take a walk.
The facilities at Glagah beach include recreation park, fishing pool and camping ground. Another beach is congat, about 5 km from Glagah beach and is connected with a well asphalted road so that the two beaches are often arranged in one package for visitors.

4. Samas Beach

Just like the beach resort o Parangtritis, Samas is a popular recreation beach, located 35 km away from Yogyakarta city. This beach is easily reached by kinds of vehicles and the road is in good conditions. Samas has developed to be a lovely recreation beach, and it is equipped with facilities including : accomodations, and restaurants. Apart from the tourist facilities, some fish and shrimp ponds are also developed. To reach Samas beach from Yogyakarta, visitor can take a micro bus on Jl. Kolonel Sugiyono, Yogyakarta.

3. Parangtritis Beach Resort



1.      Parangtritis Beach Resort
Parangtritis area, better known as a recreation beach resort, constitues a place which has many historical attractions especially the one which has relation with the legend of Ratu Kidul, the Queen of the South Sea (Indian Ocean). It is 27 km from Yogyakarta and offers some attractions, such as:
Ø  Parang Wedang
It is a mineral hot spring which flows the whole your round. It is a good place for visitors to have skin treatment.
Ø  Parang Kusuma
According to Javanese belief, Parang Kusuma is considered a sacred place in the area Parangtritis beach. This site is believed to the meeting place between the kings who ruled Yogyakarta and Ratu Kidul, Queen of the South Sea. The meeting volcanic eruption is called Watu Gilang located on the sand of the beach. This sacred complex is frequently visited by domestic tourists, and it is equipped with accomodations, mosque, restaurants, and so on.
Ø  Gambirawati Highlands
To reach the Gambirawati Highlands, one can take the route from Parangtritis to Panggang and Langse cave.  This area is good palce to see a panoramatic view and its surroundings.
Ø  Langse Cave
Langse was used to be an asceticism cave in the form of corridor under the big rock of which of the mouth overlooks the sea. The cave can be reached by climbing down a steep rock and a rope or a bamboo ladder. To go into and out of the cave, one can do it when the tide ebbs, on account of the cave mouth is covered with sea water when the tide comes in.
Ø  Tomb of Syeh Bela-Belu
This tomb is located on the hill of Pemancingan, and is often visited by pilgrims on Tuesdays and Jum’at Kliwon (certain Fridays of Javanese calender).
